Travel day! We are driving from Disneyland to the Grand Canyon today. Wow, I never imagined myself saying that! We are on quite an adventure! :)
In the book that I am reading, “Money, Possessions and Eternity,” I read that more people visit the Minnesota Mall of America each year than Disneyland, the Grand Canyon and The Grand Ole Opry combined. That seems impossible after seeing the crowds at Disney. It also said that in the US there is 16.5 sq ft of mall space for every man, woman and child. Ugghh, all I want is my family together in a park with a soccer ball and a bag of sandwiches and I am a happy mom. Maybe that is easy to say after just spending 4 days at Disney but, it is true. All I really want is my family together, experiencing God in His creation, thankful for our blessings. And, it is my prayer that this is what the boys learn to value in their lives, too. Hopefully, they will look back on this experience as part of that learning process.
We are nearing our campground outside of the Grand Canyon where we will meet Grammie and Papa Landon. We will be staying at a Flinstone’s Bedrock Campground. I still remember my trip to a Flinstone’s Park in South Dakota when I turned 4 years old. I hope that it is as memorable for the boys and that they enjoy the Grand Canyon. It will be a first for them and me and it has been years since Paul was there. I am sure that the eyes of a 39 yr old look on the Canyon differently than that of a 10 yr old! :) Plus, we cannot wait to spend time with Grammie and Papa there!
HA!!!!! We just rounded a bend in the road about 25 miles from our campground and WHAT do we see sitting at the turnout???...is that Grammie and Papa’s camping van??... IT IS!!! What a fun surprise!! Big hugs and happy smiles all around! They had just reviewed their map and were pulling out when they spotted us, wildly waving as we pulled into the turn out. Perfect timing! Like Carla said, “God is good!” :)
We’re back on the road, Carla and Morry behind us, Zachary just looked out at the tumbleweeds and miles of landscape and said, “Hey, are we in the Wild West?” Yup, pardnor, this is the Wild West.
So far, we’ve driven 1720 miles…and counting!
Happy Trails!
